Lancaster City Centre

It was very overcast in Lancaster this morning as this view of Market Street shows.
Although in the heart of the city centre, Sun Street is a quiet thoroughfare and  consists of some very old buildings, some of which date back to the 1730s.

The Assembly Rooms has been the venue for a collectables market for some years. They were built in 1759 by the Trustees of Pennys Almshouses.

Pennys Almshouses and a chapel were built in 1720 for ‘poor men,’ following money being left by William Penny, a former Mayor of Lancaster.

King Street Chambers, on the corner of King Street (now there’s a surprise!) and George Street.
Looking towards the city centre in Penny Street.
