K Village Shopping Centre, Kendal

The company that owns the K Village Shopping centre in Kendal (Kendal Riverside Limited) went into administration last week. Not surprising really as these photographs taken yesterday reveal that the place was virtually devoid of shoppers! It continues to trade for the moment. When it opened it was stated that the place would attract 1.5 million visitors per year and 4,000 coaches. Clearly that was a 'tad' ambitious! It always seemed to be 'deserted' whenever I have passed by there and as a result a few of the original retailers who were there at the opening have since moved on.

Spot the shoppers!

Hardly anyone 'trespassing' here.

Not much better in this view either.

It must be pretty soul destroying if you are one of the retailers.

Looks as if they have sprung a leak? Bucket outside Clarks Factory Shop.

It is reported that only two of the 90 riverside apartments above the K Village shopping centre have been sold.

  1. How anyone could have thought that this place was going to be a success is beyond me!
