Carnforth Station & Heritage Centre

The Carnforth Station and Heritage Centre is well worth a visit, with its fascinating museum  and shop. And if you feel hungry or thirsty, you could always call into The Refreshment Room. The Centre was opened in October 2003 and has gone from strength to strength since then.
The iconic station clock, the most photographed location in Canrforth! Made famous when David Lean made his classic romance, 'Brief Encounter' in 1945, starring Celia Johnson and Trevor Howard. The film is continually shown at the Centre in their mini cinema for all to enjoy once again.
I wonder where the Porter is?
Old railway posters from the 1960s
And an even older one from 1934.
The centre is currently hosting an exhibition for the Lancaster Canal Trust, whose aim it is to restore the current closed section of the canal, known as The Northern Reaches, back to Kendal. At present it is possible to traverse the canal from the Ribble estuary near Preston as far north as Tewitfield, near Carnforth.
A sad time for all steam buffs.

  1. I find these Heritage Centres fascinating, especially anything connected to the days of steam trains. The images illustrate the centre very well
and the narrative along with each image has made me realise that I need to include more information with the images on my site.
