Kendal: The Buildings Of Market Place

The late Sir John Bejeman once said that people do not look up at buildings enough and they miss a great deal of architecture and history. With that in mind, I took a series of photographs in Kendal's Market Place. There are so many varied designs to be seen. There will be another set of photographs tomorrow, as I worked my way around the Market Place. from left to right.
Globe Inn is the only pub in Market Place.
Nine windows above the shop. Computer games shop - 'Game.'
Entrance to the Westmorland Shopping Centre. Note the old signage 'Public Market.'
Next to the Westmorland Centre is this old stone building, now housing 'Nina's' cafe.
Working Mens' Institute building in one corner of Market Place.
The inevitable coffee shop - they are everywhere! - This one is called Cafe Nero.
Final photograph today is a cafe called Relish, which serves home made food. Tomorrow, there will be photographs of the other side of the Market Place.

  1. I'm pleased to see someone else who like to photograph shops, they fascinate me with their varying architectural styles. I've enjoyed seeing these at Kendall and was pleased to see some shops still have the old shop front blinds instead of the modern security shutters. Kendal was always a favourite place to visit when we holidayed in the lakes, thanks for showing these images.
