Penrith Castle

Penrith Castle was built at the end of the 14th century by Ralph Neville, who was granted the manor of Penrith in 1396. It played a key role in the defence of the English from the Scots. The ruins of the castle are situated on the edge of the town of Penrith, in Castle Park, opposite the railway station.
The moat around the castle can still be clearly seen.

Artists impression as to what Penrith Castle would have looked like.
You can wander freely amongst the ruins.

Sadly there are those who abuse the site by leaving their rubbish behind.
