Burnley: Part 1 of 2

A recent trip took me to East Lancashire and the town of Burnley. Unfortunately the weather was not very kind! There was a combination of rain, sleet and snow and the light levels were very poor for photography, so what you see is what I saw! The first image shows the modern Bus Station in Burnley, shortly after I had arrived from Preston. The Bus Station replaced an older, outdated one, in 2002, costing £3m to build.

In view of the cold and inclement weather, there were few folk around in Burnley town centre.
There are some fine buildings in the town. This one is the Boot Inn, a Grade Two listed building dating from 1911, and part of the J.D. Wetherspoon pub chain.
Sleet was falling again as I took this photo of the Bandstand in St. James Street.
Not really the ideal day for an outdoor market.
A deserted town centre.

The Swan.
Burnley Town Hall on Manchester Road.
A closer look at the clock tower.

Pedestrianisation of the town centre, but unfortunately not many pedestrians!

Entrance to Charter Walk Shopping Centre.
Burnley Football Club were due to play at Queen's Park Rangers.

(Part 2 of the visit to Burnley will be featured tomorrow).

  1. The weather has certainly kept the people at home. Some fine buildings, one looks quite "Art Deco"
