Low Bentham Church

St. John The Baptist Church in the village of Low Bentham in the Lune Valley, proved to be a delight to visit. It had a nice, welcoming atmosphere.
A Church on this site was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086.

The heavy, wooden, entrance doors.
A view from the altar end of the Church.

The organ pipes.
One of the banners hanging in the Church.

A prayer cushion referring to the local school.

The Church tower.
This very unusual headstone marks the resting place of a former grave digger.
The grave digger was Robert Poole (1842-1906).

  1. It's a really grand church for a village. Possibly suggests that this village was much larger at one time?
