Windermere Ferry

The Mountain Goat bus that I caught from Hawkshead, waiting for the return journey at the Far Sawrey Ferry House.
There are several boats moored on this side of Lake Windermere.
Looking north.

There is also a launch service direct to Bowness Pier.
I parted with 50p.
Only one motorist waiting for the ferry across to the Ferry Nab, Bowness.
The ferry arrives.
And unloads.
The Windermere Ferry has been operating for more than 500 years. The original craft were rowed across the lake, later ferries were steam driven and the most recent ones have had diesel engines. The current ferry 'Mallard' is the largest so far; which carries up to 18 cars and over 100 passengers. Here it is at the Ferry Nab, Bowness. The ferry 'runs' every  20 minutes.
Loading up for the return crossing to the Ferry House, Far Sawrey.
It's a pleasant walk from here to Bowness via Cockshott Point along the shore of the lake.
