Backbarrow

The village of Backbarrow is next to Haverthwaite, which was featured yesterday.  The village grew up around its cotton mills and iron foundry, the latter opening in 1711. Both made use of a plentiful water supply - the River Leven which flows through Backbarrow - generating power. The cotton mills continued to grow in size during the Victorian period. The foundry and the mills used the Furness Railway to transport goods.
A partly secluded property.
The Haverthwaite and Backbarrow CommunityCommittee were staging a Scarecrow Festival.
