Beetham Village

The village of Beetham is near Milnthorpe in Cumbria. Some of the buildings go back hundreds of years. There was mention of Beetham as long ago as 1066.
Someone collects chimney pots and displays them in their garden!
A few more.
The Heron Theatre promotes a programme of varied events throughout the year. It has a seating capacity of 80. The building was a grammar school in the 18th century.

The theatre logo - a heron.
Wayside Cottage.
Beetham's deterrent against crime - the village stocks.
A row of cottages with The Wheatsheaf pub being the tall building.
Cottage for sale.
Meadow Bank. Looking toward the centre of the village.
A view of the old post office (left hand building) across the churchyard.
Village shop and tea rooms (doggie friendly!).
Money was spent in both the shop downstairs and the tea rooms upstairs. Highly recommended.  Although no longer a post office, it has retained a small post box.
The War Memorial

The old County flag of Westmorland is still proudly flown. Beetham was in  that County until it was abolished along with neighbouring Cumberland and became Cumbria in 1974.

(My thanks to our Roving Lakeland Correspondent for some of the images above).

  2. Mike I have seen photos of Beetham's Nursery many times on the LakeLand Cam website and wondered if the village of Beetham is where the Nursery is located? I have also seen photos of the church, but can't remember seeing photos of the village till now! Thank you. Keep up the good work.

  3. Andrea and Kelly - Thanks for the comment. Always good to read them. Beetham Village is on one side of the main Lancaster to Kendal road, and the Nursery is on the other. So quite close together but separated by a busy road.
