Barrow-in-Furness: Part 1 of 2

It has been a while since I last visited Barrow-in-Furness, so I took the bus there via Kendal and had a walk around the town, taking the following set of images, starting with the most modern part of the shopping area.

The shopping centre has been pedestrianised for quite some time. This is Dalton Road.

A little further along Dalton Road.

Looking in the opposite direction.
The Forum is Barrow's arts and theatre complex. Opened in 1990, it was previously the Civic Hall and totally refurbished. The theatre has seating for 529.

The Town Hall, Grade Two listed, is undergoing some remedial work, hence the scaffolding.
Built over four years, the Town Hall was opened by Spencer Cavendish, the 8th Duke of Devonshire, on 14th July 1887, which coincided with Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee.

This statue commmorates Barrow's history of iron ore mining and shipbuilding etc. Called 'The Spirit of Barrow,' it was unveiled on 6th May 2005, partly funded by the town's biggest employer, B.A.E. Systems.

The Salvation Army Citadel building on Abbey Road. It was opened in 1905.

(Part 2 of the visit to Barrow-in-Furness will be featured tomorrow).
