Manchester City Centre: Part 1 of 3

The impressive entrance to Piccadilly Basin, once part of Manchester's thriving canal system - now - it's a car park.
More eividence of the canal system. This used to be the offices of the Rochdale Canal Company.
Despite ongoing redevelopment, there are still many fine old buildings in the city centre, like this one which was the headquarters of the Union Bank of Manchester.

The Wellington statue.
The Big Wheel in Piccadilly Gardens.

Queen Victoria Statue.
A small market in Piccadilly Gardens, although looking at this view, the trade was appalling.
Get your team colours from this supermarket trolley. Manchester United were at home to Aston Villa.
Manchester has a very impressive and ever expanding tram system, which includes sections of street running.
Manchester Central Library building.

St. George's House, although I have no idea what the building was originally used for.
Formerly Manchester Central railway station, now an exhibition centre.
The Royale building.

The Manchester Free Trade Hall.

  1. My son & I are hoping to have a day at Manchester this summer so, having seen these images I'm really looking forward to it. A good mix of images, old and new styles, and a good taster of what is there to see.
