Leasgill

The village of Leasgill is near Milnthorpe. The main road through the village goes to Kendal.  Leasgill was once part of the Eversley Estate, owned by the Argles family.
Although it is March, I never saw any! Maybe they all went across the road last month instead?
A view over the gate.
The centre of Leasgill looking in the direction of Kendal.

A Milepost dated 1826.
Someone waiting for the hourly bus from Lancaster to Keswick.
The bus arrives.
The name, Athenaeum was provided by the Argles Estate, which bequeathed the building to the community. The Argles were a wealthy shipping family based in Liverpool. Mr. Argles was a member of the Athenaeum in Liverpool ad brought this title to what became the Athenaum at Leasgill, initially as a library.
The Athenaeum Village Hall,
The north end of Leasgill.
Looking out across the river and the plain with Whitbarrow Scar dominating the background.
A bus in the other direction, having set out from Keswick and heading for Lancaster.
A group of cottages in the hazy sunshine.
Walking along the lane at the rear of the Athenaeum Hall.
The Bowling Green.
Time for a rest.

  1. You certainly get value from your bus pass and you must be a familiar face on the 555 service! Nice pictures as usual Mike.
