Hest Bank

The village of Hest Bank, between Morecambe and Carnforth, is on two distinct levels. The lower level is by the shoreline of Morecambe Bay and the West Coast railway line, however, we start by walking around the higher level at the village Memorial Hall.

The Parish council also 'covers' the adjacent village of Slyne with Hest.

Peacock Lane and the green is the centre of the higher part of Hest Bank.
Looking along Peacock Lane.
Peacock Lane is off to the right. The road straight ahead goes over the Lancaster Canal and drops down to the lower level of Hest Bank.
The Hest Bank pub. I once saw someone arrive here on a horse, which was tethered outside, whilst the rider had liquid refreshment.
Looking towards the lower level of Hest Bank, with the railway signal box (now closed) and Morecambe Bay behind.
A closer look.
St. Lukes Parish Church.

The Bay Crossing cafe.
Hest Bank railway crossing.

Across the railway and onto the shoreline. The Shore Cafe was closed.

Low tide. Looking towards Morecambe in the distance.
Out over the bay with Grange-over-Sands on the other side, just visible. This is the area where many Chinese cockle pickers lost their lives a few years ago, being caught out by the fast incoming tide.
