Morecambe: Yorkshire Street Shops: Part 1 of 3

Yorkshire Street in the West End of Morecambe was once a thriving and bustling shopping area. However, in recent years, apart from a handful of successful traders, many shops have closed, and some of the buildings could certainly do with some tender loving care. I walked up and down the street taking images of the shops, which I hope forms a sort of  social record of the area.
A general view of Yorkshire Street. The local Council decided to try and enhance the street, by laying cobbled areas and narrowing certain sections. However, many of the traders believe this has been a retrograde step.
Unfortunately I had to take some of the images looking straight into the sun! This shop is for LCR, a computer and cash registers etc. type business.
West End Dental Laboratory.
Moving along Yorkshire Street. One shop had a sale on, although both of the shops looked closed.
T.I.C. - The Insurance Centre.
The Barber Shop.
The Hoover Service Centre.
Cobblestone Cafe.
One assumes this used to be a Chinese takeaway - now closed.
5-A-Day plant and veg shop.
Lejdis - a former eat in cafe or takeaway. Now closed.
Craven's a curry house and pizza bar.
Cash For Clothing.
No name at all on  this shop which was selling everything half price.
A well known shop in Yorkshire Street is the fishmongers, Edmondson's.
Another closed shop.
Thurlwell's the bakers.
No jobs available here. The Employment Centre is shut.

(Part 2 of the walk along Yorkshire Street will be continued tomorrow).

  1. Well I think it says it all when the Employment Centre is also closed! Sad to see these shops in decline but I think we must photograph them for the future. Some interesting shops here and I see the barbers shop is still open. Probably because the local supermarket has not included that under it's roof! Give them time.
