Crag Foot, Warton

There are several reminders around the area of Crag Foot, which is between Silverdale and Warton, of what was once an extensive mining area.

Mining companies in this particular area, rich in iron and aragonite, included, The Warton and Silverdale Mining Company (1879-90) and The Warton Mining and Colour Company (1889-92).
The Warton and Silverdale Mining Company was formed in 1879, with a capital of £10,000 in shares of £10, to carry on the business of mine owners and manufacturers of iron ore and other minerals. The Warton Mining and Colour Company was formed in 1889, but was liquidated three years later thus ending a period of spasmodic mining activity in the Warton Crag area, spread over 150 years.

There was in addition a mine at Moss House, which is also at Crag Foot.
A bank of daffodils on Crag Road.
A row of cottages probably connected at one time with the mining in the area.
