Derwentwater, Keswick: Part 1 of 2

It was just a perfect day for a walk along the shore at Derwentwater in Keswick. Sunny, with a real chill in the air, but the light and the colours were just magical.

A dusting of snow on the mountain tops.
One of the launches - 'Princess Margaret Rose' - that operates around the lake.
Looking down Derwentwater.

A large boat house on the other side of the lake.
You can follow the shore line (easy walking) from Keswick to Friar's Crag and beyond.
Admiring the view.

There were so many photographic opportunities.

The view of Derwentwater from Friar's Crag. John Ruskin described the view as one of the three most beautiful scenes in Europe.
The Ruskin Memorial stone, now Grade II Listed. Made out of Borrowdale slate, the memorial to John Ruskin (1819-1900) was erected in October 1900. Ruskin once described Keswick as a place almost too beautiful to live in.
A closer look.

(Part 2 of the visit to Derwentwater will appear tomorrow).

  1. A lovely area, my favourite part of the Lake District and very nice to see it again in autumn colours.
