Strathpeffer: Closed For Business

The town of Strathpeffer, near Dingwall, was closed for business (almost!) when we visited there last month. The bicycle shop was open (very useful!!), as was the general stores, only to be served by someone with little personality. All the cafe's were closed. You would think one would be open. We noticed one just opening as we left the town! Worse still the public loos were locked in two locations. Thank goodness for a strategically situated bush. Not a great advert for the Strathpeffer. Needless to say we didn't stay very long. The image above shows the main row of shops, including the aforementioned general stores.

In the chemists window.
One begins to worry about the good folk (not that we saw many) of Strathpeffer.
The Spa Pavilion. This is where the cafe was opening as we pulled away on the bus.

The Hotel looked to be pretty quiet.
A cat sculpture in the Park.

The former railway station at Strathpeffer, now occupied by small businesses, including crafts, books and a cafe - and yes, you've guessed it, all shut.

The branch line from Dingwall to Strathpeffer was closed by the London, Midland and Scottish Railway Company,  as long ago as February 1946. The station has been very well restored and put to good use (when open).

  1. Pity the place was "closed" as there is a lot to enjoy. The railway station reminded me of the old station at Keswick.
