Preston: Harris Flights

A poster detailing what the Harris Flights is all about. Part of it reads:-

'The first floor podium of the Harris Museum is a forgotten space for the people of Preston. Used only for ceremonial occasions and accessible by the lucky few, the podium wall presents a blank face to the Market Square below.

Harris Flights is a dramatic staircase commissioned by In Certain Place as part of their programme of temporary public works of art works.

For the first time ever it enables everyone to move freely from the Market Square into the heart of the Harris Museum & Art Gallery through a ‘new’ front door and vice versa.'

Various events were being staged on and around the Harris Flights.

At the top of the Harris Flights, looking down at the Market Square area.

At the top of the staircase and over the doorway of the Harris Museum & Art Gallery.

Another view from the top of the staircase, overlooking Market Square. There is renovation work being undertaken on the Cenotaph. Quite a few folk were enjoying a view they would not normally see from this vantage point.
Zooming in on the shoppers in Friargate.

Back on the ground (!!). Market Square.

Another view of the Square.

An unusual fast food takeaway painted in the colours of a former Preston tram.

  1. It's an impressive building, I enjoyed the shots of the figures you zoomed in on too.
