Silverdale

The village of Silverdale is 4.5 miles north west of Carnforth. It forms part of the Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The RSPB's Leighton Moss nature reserve is close the village.  The Lancashire Coastal Way footpath goes from Silverdale to Freckleton and the Cumbria Coastal Way goes from Silverdale to Gretna.

The Victorian novelist Elizabeth Gaskell (1810–1865) regularly holidayed in Silverdale and is said to have written some of her works in Lindeth Tower near the village. The Gaskell Memorial Hall (as above) in the centre of the village is named after her.
