A Visit To Bowness: Part 1 of 3

Swans alongside Swan!
Deciding on which cruise to take on Lake Windermere.
A popular open top bus service operates every 20 minutes in the summer months between Bowness, Windermere, Ambleside and Grasmere.  Seen here loading at Bowness Pier.
The swans and ducks mix freely with the humans on the shore at Bowness, because they know there is a good chance they will be fed crumbs of food and other goodies.

Landing stages. Looking north up the lake toward Waterhead.
Taking a rest.

Rowing boats for hire on the lake.

The cruise ship, Swan' leaves Bowness heading for Lakeside.
These smaller, glass topped boats, like 'Miss Cumbria III' also operate on cruises around the lake.
'Silverholme' awaits to set sail on what was a perfect day as far as the weather was concerned.

  1. Have you been on any of the Windermere cruises Mike? I was on one years ago (about 1982) but I can't remember which boat I was on. I do remember it was a gorgeous day and there were loads of boats and canoes of all sizes on the lake! It's worth taking one of the cruises as you see the lake and surrounding scenery from a different perspective.

    Keep up the good work!

  2. Yes, Andrea. I have been on the Windermere cruises on a few occasions. They are well worth the trip. Although like anything in this area of the Lake District, they get extremely busy in peak times. Better to take the cruise early or late summer (or even winter with snow on the mountains) when it is a lot quieter. Thanks for the comment. Always good to read feedback.
