Cark And Cartmel Station

Although located in the village of Cark, the station also serves Cartmel. hence the name. Strangely though, the nearer village of Flookburgh is not mentioned!
The station is on the line from Lancaster to Barrow-in-Furness. The station opened on 1st September 1857 as Cark-in-Cartmel. The current name was adopted in 1906.
The former station buildings are now a private residence. It was built by the Ulverston and Lancaster Railway. The Furness Railway took over that company in January 1862 which in turn became part of the London, Midland and Scottish Railway in January 1923.
