Housesteads: Roman Fort

Welcome to Housesteads. The former Roman fort on Hadrian's Wall has been designated a World Heritage Site.

Principia. This was the administrative and religious centre of the fort, and was the most important building.

  3. Great photos Mike! I'm glad you got a good day to be out there, as I know how windy and brutal it can get on a cold day. Hadrian's Wall means a lot to me as I grew up in Wallsend the town where the wall ended on the East Coast. There are some roman ruins in our town too that were uncovered not too long ago, and a piece of the wall still stands near Newcastle. Wonderful to see my beloved Northumberland and it's great open skies and landscape.
