Dalton-In-Furness

The town of Dalton-In-Furness is situated near its much larger neighbour, Barrow-In-Furness,. Before the latter grew in importance as a centre of shipbuilding, Dalton was the premier town in the area. It had its own castle (tower), which was built in the mid 1300s. Restored in 1968-69 it is now owned by The National Trust.
Dalton Castle plaque.
Another reminder of the former importance of Dalton as a town. The old County Police Station and Courthouse dates from 1879.
The birthplace of George Romney
The sign on the wall says it all really!
Dr. William Close lived here.
This attractive building on the edge of the town is now a hotel.
In the hotel gardens.
There are some tempting snacks here!
The design on the end of the bench in the square caught my attention.

  1. Enjoyed seeing this set Mike, high quality images as usual. I love the dog poo sign! I'm always drawn to civic society and heritage plaques like the ones here, they usually have something of interest to photograph.
