Castlerigg Stone Circle

Castlerigg Stone Circle is located near the town of Keswick. The circle is believed to have been constructed as part of a megalithic tradition that lasted from 3,300 to 900 BCE, during the Late Neolithic and Early Bronze Ages.
The circle with Blencathra in the background.
The smaller circle, the sanctuary.
A single stone.

Looking south from Castlerigg to Dalebottom and Iron Crag.
Looking north to Blease Fell and Blencathra.
The circle with the Helvellyn range of mountains in the background.
A family party and dog at the circle. It was a shame that the children were being allowed to clamber over the ancient stones though.
As can be found at many similar stone circles, the outlier stone.
