Windermere: Bus & Rail

The Interchange at Windermere between rail and bus can be very busy, especially in the summer months. The railway station is just out of shot on the right. As for hiring a bike ... well, no contest, I'll stick to the bus! This particular one was heading for Keswick.
This bus was operating the local Windermere town service.
The old station canopy is still intact as can be seen in this view. The entrance to the railway station used to be in through the building on the right, which is now occupied by Booths supermarket. Note the long queue of people waiting for buses to both Bowness and Ambleside, which on this particular day were being delayed by road works.
The present day railway station and the  unusual chalet style of architecture, which is in keeping with the area. The old station building can be seen in the background

On the platform and looking towards the old station building. Trains used to run into the roofed structure, now bricked up and used by Booths supermarket.
The end of the line. Trains that arrive in Windermere will have come from Manchester Airport, Manchester Piccadilly and Oxenholme.
Having arrived at Windermere, this train was due to return to Oxenholme on the West Coast main line.

Welcome to the Lakes.
