East Lancashire Railway: Ramsbottom

The East Lancashire preserved railway (steam and diesel) runs between Heywood, Bury, Ramsbottom and Rawtenstall.  The following images were all taken at the superbly restored Ramsbottom station. A class 20 locomotive is seen arriving at the station heading for Rawtenstall.
Looking in the other direction toward Rawtenstall. The road to the left leads to the main shopping area in the town.
Everything is well cared for, even this footbridge.
Look at those prices!
Arriving at Ramsbottom from Rawtenstall was the steam loco, Sapper.
Note the glow of the fire.
Ramsbottom main station buildings.

A successful  1940s weekend was held on the line a few days prior to my visit, and some of the period advertisements were still in place.

A time for reflection between trains.
Fire fighting equipment.
Luggage and bears.
Live bees!!

Posters at one time were a real piece of art.

The final view of what proved to be a really interesting visit to Ramsbottom station.

  1. I dropped into your archived sets and found this and I'm very pleased I did too! A great set of pics from this lovely preserved railway which brings back many memories of rail travel. It reminds us of when we all travelled by train, even bears & bees apparently!! I enjoyed the poster for Thomas Crapper toilet wares, I was in the building trade many years ago and once removed an old toilet pan bearing the proud name of "The Mighty Avalanche"!!
Very enjoyable set, must have another lucky dip into your archives soon....David.
